What is the most effective way for a founder to refine their company's core narrative?

I agree with a community member that storytelling is a very important aspect. And I invested a lot of time in it, but not by disappearing into a room to “craft the narrative.”
Storytelling is trial and error. You tell the story over and over, to investors, employees, customers, friends, strangers. You watch when their eyes light up, when they lean in, when they get confused, when they politely nod and change the subject. That’s the work.
So yes, communication is one of the highest-leverage skills a founder can develop. But storytelling gets overrated when people think it means polish, charisma, or clever phrasing. It’s not theater. It’s clarity married to emotional resonance.
The biggest mistake founders make? Perfecting a pitch that only works inside their own head. Your story is not judged by how elegant it sounds to you. It’s judged by whether it lands.
People rarely remember exactly what you said. They remember how you made them feel.
