How should a startup balance early customer feedback with staying true to its long-term product vision?

Customer feedback is mean to hone your intuition, not to tell you what to do. With enough feedback, you begin to feel where consensus is, where the trends are, what things are truly important and which are outliers.
So listen hard, but don't obey blindly. Early customers are gold for uncovering pain, confusion, and what’s broken. They’re terrible at defining your strategy. I drew the line by asking: is this feedback exposing a universal problem, or just one customer’s special request? If it made the core product better for lots of people, we leaned in. If it pulled us toward custom features, edge cases, or a services business we didn’t want, I said no. Founders get distracted when they confuse responsiveness with conviction. Sure ... listen to the pain. But make sure you own the solution.
