Is posting content on social media an effective way to test customer demand and willingness to pay?

You got this partially right (the "very much against" part) but let me clarify what I'm "very much against": I’m not against Instagram. I’m against confusing posting with testing.

A hundred posts is a content strategy, not a validation strategy. You’ll learn slowly, and mostly about what gets attention, not what gets purchased. It's extremely easy for people to "say" they like something, that "of course i would use it", etc. But that intent falls apart the moment they are asked to surrender a credit card.

You want to meausre intent so buy. So pick the customer first: tradespeople or homeowners. They have different pains, language, sales cycles, and willingness to pay. Then run the smallest real test: one landing page, one specific promise, one call to action, and maybe $50–$200 in ads to a cheaper but similar market. Measure signups, quote requests, or calls booked.

AI-assisted content is fine. But don’t automate away customer contact. Make sure you are talking to real people and getting as close to you can to what you'll eventually ask them to do: which is pay for something.
